Ana Santos Almeida, PhD

Ana Santos Almeida is a cancer immunologist working on the interaction of the human gut microbiota and immune cells during cancer progression. Ana completed her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology in the laboratory of Prof. Philippe Sansonetti, at Institut Pasteur, in Paris. In 2013, she joined Dr. Mikala Egeblad’s laboratory at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, New York, for her postdoctoral training. In 2016, Ana moved to Cork, Ireland, to join the laboratory of Prof. Paul O’Toole at APC Microbiome Ireland. She was granted a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship in 2017.
Ana is also one of the co-founders and former chair of the APC Microbiome Ireland Postdoc Association, where she developed a series of career talks for early career researchers. Ana is also the Native Scientist Coordinator and Project Manager for Portuguese in Ireland. Native Scientist is a network of international scientists created to tackle educational disadvantage through science outreach.
